Angry Hooded Shadows

Joseph was 18 when he moved into his first apartment, but he didn’t stay long – the apartment was angry.

“There was tension in the apartment,” Joseph said. “The longer I lived there, the stronger the tension would get. As I would walk across the rooms I would feel sensations going through me.”

Joseph felt the anger growing in his apartment, but nothing prepared him for what followed.

“One night I woke up and looked at the foot of my bed,” Joseph said. “There was a blacker-than-night creature. It spun around like it was angry and confused. I felt the whole presence of it at the foot of my bed.”

He turned on the light and the thing was gone – two weeks later, it returned.

“I was visited (by) one that was about seven-foot tall with a hood and a cape,” Joseph said. “It just came up to my side of the bed and towered over me.”

A black hooded figure; this specter has haunted humans for centuries. It can appear as a shadow lurking at the periphery of your vision, but sometimes it is fully visible, like it was to Joseph.

In his book of sermons, “Footprints on the Sands of Time,” William Branham refers to this “dark, gloomy-looking shadow” as the Death Angel. Branham claims to have seen this angel which has “a hood of dark smoke” and foretells someone’s death.

Psychic Dawn Newlan of the Ozark Paranormal Society has seen entities like this and knows how frightening they can be.

“These figures are … an evil entity,” Dawn said. “The fear it sends through your body is something hard to describe, but you know with every inch of your existence that what you are in the presence of is not good and you should not be there.”

That terror invaded Joseph when the creature appeared in his bedroom.

“I felt such fear I was paralyzed. It just stood there like it was looking through me,” Joseph said. “I covered my head like a kid. This one was bold and meant to bring about fear, and I knew it.”

When Joseph grew brave enough to peel off the blanket, the figure was gone – but the fear remained. After that night, Joseph rarely stayed in his apartment alone, but anyone staying there also saw the entity.

“My brother saw them,” he said. “A friend of mine woke me up screaming one night. She had seen one of them, so I knew it wasn’t only me.”

Joseph eventually moved.

“I am just glad they didn’t follow me,” he said.

Joseph’s experience isn’t unique.

“My brother-in-law saw one of these things in his apartment. It was not friendly – at all,” an anonymous Shadows reader wrote. “He said he could feel the anger directed toward him. He saw it. Tall, dark, no face, with a hood.”

The online Shadows reader Truthseeker has also seen the hooded figure.

“I was laying in bed at night, unable to sleep, a dark black figure floated about a foot or two above my bed,” she said. “His head looked like it was hooded… no detail other than that. It was very menacing and obviously not a good thing.”

The visits soon became frequent and Truthseeker had had enough of them.

“I sat up in the bed and I actually took a swing at this thing,” she said. “The instant my fist would have come in contact with it, it vanished. I was shocked, although I’m not sure what I was expecting. I just let my anger and frustration come out.”

It must have worked; the black, hooded figure hasn’t visited Truthseeker since.

“I felt very good after I figured out that I had ‘defeated’ it that night,” she said.

Although Dawn doesn’t suggest attacking these dark, hooded entities, she said people terrorized by them should find spiritual protection.

“They had better find absolute faith in one divine energy,” Dawn said. “My favorite saying is ‘You cannot harm me for I am protected by the Hand of God.’”

  1. I've met people who've seen them. I've seen the shadows waking and in dreams. Sometimes I'd dream about cloaked humans, black eyed shifters, etc. Long before the popular internet discussions of black eyed people. My wife still wakes up and sees them peering in the bedroom door sometimes. Whatever they are, they're rotten to the core, and thrive on negative feelings.

I'm glad to read that other people have seen hooded shadows. I've been visited by what I presume to be the same shadow three times in my life, and the memories have haunted me ever since. I first saw it when I was two, in my bedroom at my dad's duplex. It walked up the stairs, stood in my doorway, and then took a step backward and disappeared. When I was six, I saw it again at my dad's new house, this time towering over my bed. I couldn't move, and I don't remember what happened next. All I remember is trying to scream, but there was this horrible weight on my chest. About two years later, it poked its head into my room at my mom's house and stared at me for a moment before steping back into the hall and disappearing.
It has always seemed very menacing, and is quite different from other shadow people I've seen.

Also, has anyone seen wispy orbs that look like a lot of floating strands of dark hair? I see these often, as do some of my friends. We can't figure out what the heck they might be.

From the age of 3yrs to the age of 14yrs i had nightly viset from the shadows of a night and in the years to come day viset as well. After the first wave of fear hits stand strong and tell them to be gone for Christ blood is upon you and no evil can stand against this. Some times i still get visits but they stand far from me for they fear now .Ive been held down unable to move or speak in some visets but just thinking about the blood of christ makes them go away .The shadows that came to me had green glowing eyes and incresed in number to the point i could no longer count them.

Hi. I see these things a lot. I'm only 13 and they scare me so much. I read that sometimes when people are afraid of the unknown dark entities are attracted to them and they feed of their fear. I don't know what these dark hooded figures are. I've never seen their face and they are always standing at my dorrway. They disappear as quickly as they came. Can anyone tell me what they are?? =]

I drew a picture of one I had seen in a dream once. To be honest, Jesus showed me it in a dream after showing me a way through dead woods into a place with living trees. The being was also glowing in that bluish color it's drawn in, maybe more throbbing with light. His eyes and face were covered with the hood like shown til I go up close and looked up to his face. Then, when he went to look up at me, right before I saw his eyes, I woke up.

another time I had a dream about one in a hood only it was black and it had a snake head! it was a witch and sending evil spirits around, and there was a HUGE tornado mixed with a hurricane in the dream. after I began to wake up (maybe sleep paralysis) I opened my eyes and kinda saw it standing at the end of the bed with that fear feeling, and then when I opened my eyes, it was gone.

one last time I had a dream of one. this time, it was all black, and hovering amidst a portal with what looked like a staff. it was trying to crush me with intense fear, and I tried to call out for Jesus, but couldn't. So I had to believe with my heart, and light came out and either sent it away or destroyed it. in either case, the fear was COMEPLETELY removed and REPLACED with comfort. I woke up feeling better than I had in a long, long time...

I've seen something like this, but it was just passing through. When I lived in an apartment with my dad I was a young teen and I can vividly recall three strange things happening there. Two I never thought much of. One I don't dwell on but do think it to be paranormal.

The first two involve my alarm clock and a flash of light, however, I know people explain things like that away with science. Once, my alarm clock's radio came on even though the switch was still off. It was loud even though the volume was all the way down. I unplugged it but it stayed on for a few more seconds before dying down slowly. It scared me, but I didn't let it bother me. Then was the time when I saw a flash from my mirror. I saw it had come from my window in the mirror and rushed over, thinking someone had taken a picture, but no one was there. My cat had also been in the window at the time but didn't react to it at all.

The thing relating directly to this post is when I was up late one night or early in the morning, I'm not sure which, but I was at my computer desk and I could see my room reflected in a picture frame on my desk when I saw a dark, cloaked figure move across the room behind me. My first reaction was just that, to react, because something was obviously in my room, so I spun around, but nothing was there. I then excitedly told my friends about it through AIM so as to keep myself unafraid. I didn't feel genuinely afraid, just the sort that horror movies instill in you naturally; like, if I'd never scared myself with modern media, I don't think I would've been afraid then. I just thought it was cool.
