Giggles of the Ghostly Baby

Sunlight poured into 16-year-old David Emerick III’s room as he lie in bed, a cold fear freezing him motionless as he slowly realized he was not alone.

“I have never felt so helpless,” Emerick said. “I felt afraid for my life.”

And he couldn’t move.

“I had a total paralyzing feeling on my entire body,” he said. “I couldn’t get up or move any part of my body no matter how hard I tried.”

He tried to scream for his mother, but his lips couldn’t move.

“I was aware of my surroundings and it was during the day I could see everything limited from where my head was pointing,” he said. “I knew it wasn’t a dream but it seemed like my hearing was amplified.”

His heart beat in his ears and the sound of a bath running came from somewhere in the room. Then he heard something laugh.

“The noises seemed confusing at first until I was terrified of a clear sound of giggling like a little kid laughing at me in the room,” Emerick said. “I felt very fearful and this is where I began to try and struggle and fight out of the state I was in. I heard the giggles right next to me I knew the direction in which they came.”

Emerick forced his eyes toward a small couch next to his bed and saw his unwelcome visitor.

“It was a ghostly figure of a pale baby and its head was bigger than normal,” Emerick said. “I was able to snap myself out of the state I was in. I got up sweating bad and shook up and confused. I then looked at the couch again; nothing was there and everything was back to normal.”

Although Emerick never saw the giggling, ghostly child again, this wasn’t the last encounter with the unknown in his parent’s house.

“This was the first and only time I could clearly make out the figure in detail and actually hear it,” he said. “I don’t understand why my episodes continued but they did in that house. Just the same paralyzed feeling and unable to get up or call for help plus my hearing would be amplified.”

A few years later, Emerick slept the night in a friend’s guest room, whatever tormented him when he was young came back with fervor.

“It was a violent episode for me where I actually felt the presence angry, or where it actually felt like it was doing something to me,” Emerick said. “One thing that caught my attention during my paralyzed state was my friend’s dogs; they were going crazy scratching on my window very loud with their paws and whimpering.”

From his spot, frozen in bed, Emerick could see the ceiling and details of the room from the light of the moon.

“Then suddenly I felt like my body was floating above the bed slowly, and then it started to get violent. It felt like my body was going in all kinds of directions,” he said. “I could clearly see the ceiling up close, then I would be dragged back down to the bed and I remember [being up to] the ceiling again.”

Emerick was helpless as something shoved his body toward the ceiling then dragged it back to the bed. Then he stopped moving.

“It was a very violent episode,” he said. “I was able to get a view of a dark figure near my bed. I felt the presence was not good and its presence was a feeling of hatred.”

The thing disappeared and so did Emerick’s paralysis.

With the dogs still jumping on the window and barking, Emerick turned on all the lights in the room and looked in the closet and under the bed. No one was there.

“My fear quickly turned to anger,” he said. “I was sick of being harassed and attacked by whatever was causing my episodes.”

Emerick spent the rest of the night on the couch in the living room. That was three years ago, and he hasn’t experienced anything as intense since. He still feels the paralysis, but knows how to combat it. He just wants to know what’s causing it.

I've had episodes akin to this. I've read up on sleep paralysis; very throughly. I understand rational explanations for it. But to this day they have been among the most horrifying experiences I've ever gone through and I think about them to this day. I don't know if they were simple sleep paralysis or episodes of paranoid psyciophrenia, but these things facinate me. I've not had visuals but only audio and physical. Bed shaking, unable to move. Sensation of something crawling over me, and roaring and growling next to my ear, foot steps, ect.

Howdy, Jason. This is a solid account of sleep paralysis. I've had one bout of this in my life and it was so similar to your example. Can't move, can't speak, a sense of an evil presence, etc. Classic account. I am convinced events like this one are chemical/biological/stress related in nature and have NOTHING to do with spirits.

You know, I've had sleep paralysis and it's EXACTLY like that. The thing that gets me, however, is that one time my mom had a classic sleep paralysis and saw someone she knew, except he was sitting in the chair near her and was 3/4 his normal size. She finally got herself to sit up and move. Then, the phone rang and we both rushed the phone downstairs and she got it. It was our family friend telling us that her husband had died (the man that mother saw in the chair). It might be entirely possible that in a state of sleep paralysis, alien and ghostly interventions can occur because our minds do not have filters active to keep us from such information or perhaps a communication pathway is laid down. I'm open to theories.

I can remember one time when I experienced sleep paralysis. I saw an old man looking down on me while I was in bed. I couldn't move or scream for what seemed liked many minutes. When I finally did, he disappeared when my parents ran in the room. I didn't get much sleep that night.

This reminds me of my mother-in-law. She can float on air and whenever I talk to her, she's like, miles away.

Sleep paralysis - yeah right - I guess that issues bothers me more than some - I live a stress free life -really - everything works to the good for those who love G*D.
I can recall 3x that has happened to me - I say recall cause I am sure I blocked out a few - twice when I was young and later on - It created such a fear in me that struggled to fall asleep on my back. (That's how they take possession of you.) I figured out how to beat it/them.Faith and the name of the lord. Now I deliberately sleep on my back in order to confront them in the name of the most high. Since changing to offence I have not been bothered and when it happens again, I know I will be the victor.

I Agree with you 100% God can defeat this. It is easy for the medical world to put it out as a medical problem instead of a spiritual. This Case that David went through probably effects him to this day faith most likely helped him fight off his attackers.

Amen! May God smite those evil spirits, and their moslem perpetrators.

This is just sleep paralysis. It can be terrifying but I don't think there is anything supernatural about this. I had episodes several times a week for years when I was younger and it really used to scare me, especially when I didn't understand what was going on. I would sometimes hear a really loud buzzing or screeching, I would think something evil was in the rooom, I would hear, see, or feel things. I often felt something climbing on top of me and resting large, sharp teeth on my neck or shoulder. Sometimes I would hallucinate that someone was breaking in to hurt me and I couldn't do anything to get away or stop them. It was awful.

I only had one experience that wasn't scary during those years. I was initially terrified like usual and convinced that something awful was in the room with me. I then felt someone pull the covers back up over me and kiss my cheek and knew that it was my deceased grandmother. I would like to believe that she really made an appearance, but I really don't think that it was actually her ghost. I think what we experience during sp is just waking dreams. The more afraid you are, the worse it usually gets.

I've found though that you can calm yourself down while you're going through it and anything scary that you are seeing/hearing during the episode will disappear. You can also come out of it faster by concentrating on moving just your tongue or eyelids. It's really hard to move, but if you're able to move something small like that, you will come out of it. I have to get up and move around after it happens though, if I just lay there and go back to sleep after an episode it will usually come right back. It's also more common if you sleep on your back, so if you're having problems you may want to switch to sleeping on your stomach or side.

The more reports I have studied it seems there is something more to this then a scientific explanations.
This seems more spiritual then anything. I have studied this subject for a long time and most of these experiences there is no scientific explanation to most incidents with actual reports of other people actual with personal experiences and witness accounts of seeing things attacking the person whiles it is happening the world today is going to much on the science of this phenomenon which has become unfair for the people that are the victims. Even today this has not been explained fully b the scientific side of things so I challenge everyone to study further into this subject. I think we need to open are minds a bit further in these incidents.

Sleep paralysis often happens when real things combine with dreams. The real things are waking you up but you are in a dream state. Since your body paralyzes itself to keep you from running thru a window for example it adds to the terror of a bad dream. The dogs were invading your dream state with all their noise and then you partially in and partially out, hence the paralysis.

I am the person in this article. I am 30 years old now and these episodes continue to this day and are very random it could be weeks to months in between episodes but they happen and lately have been getting stronger then usual. They are beginning to take a toll on my well being and are starting to wear me down I feel like giving up on fighting these episodes I feel helpless against these unwelcome terrors. What am I supposed to do? I have been cleared medically?
